READY is 3 years old this month
This month, READY is 3 years old! During a SZN ONE Live event last week, I was asked what the “ah ha” moment was that led me leave my amazing job at FC Barcelona and dive into the unknown... 👇🏾
It was the #Web3 philosophy and concept of a “permissionless internet” – that anyone can participate without the need of approval from centralized authorities (governments, tech giants, corporations). Which means:
✅ Ownership: People can own their data, digital assets, and identities.
✅ Access: No need for intermediaries; people can connect, transact, and collaborate directly.
✅ Innovation: Builders can create tools, platforms, and movements without needing permission from gatekeepers.
So, my “ah ha” moment was realizing that we were living in rapidly changing times, but times where we (women / women's sport / sport) had the greatest opportunity of our life time to be central to this broader shift of how the internet and society is evolving.
I came up with the word “READY” for the seeds that I was planting, because I wanted it to be about getting sport “READY” for the future....
✨ For - - accessing capital and visibility in new, community-centered ways without relying on traditional sponsorship models or media gatekeepers.
✨ For - - democratic participation with inclusive governance and women start co-designing the rules and becoming owners, so that equity is built in to emerging sport ecosystems.
✨ For - -future-proofing sport so that sport (especially women's sport that is already inherently innovative and digitally-savvy in nature) can succeed in the digital revolution.
✨ For - - challenging the status quo, disrupting power structures in sport and technology and creating a more inclusive, human-centred industry.
Today, I am still inspired by the philosophy of a permissionless internet, it continues to open my eyes and remind me that getting READY for the future means re-writing the future and not waiting for others to build it, something that we can ALL participate in and contribute to. 💡
